2002: Rathaspeck Roundabout

Description

The Rathaspeck Roundabout was constructed to ease traffic flow on a stretch of road that had seen a significant increase in usage in recent times. This was particularly evident after the influx of a number of new employers in the area, such as the Department of Agriculture in nearby Johnstown Castle. Niall Barry & Co was contracted by Wexford County Council for all civil engineering works on this project, including drainage, kerbing, public lighting, brick paving and signage. The main surfacing work was carried out by Bennett Tarmacadam. This required final grade preparation, 60mm of 20mm base course, 40mm of 30% 14mm hot-rolled asphalt wearing course and 20mm pre-coated chippings. Bennetts were also responsible for line markings. This project was completed in April 2002. Please note that the above photos were taken in November 2003, 19 months after the original work.
